Ecosystems Flashcards
Habitat
Where an organism lives
Biotic Factors
All living things in an ecosystem
Abiotic
All non-living things in an ecosystem
Population
Species grouping (ex. Snakes, birds, trees population)
Community
Organisms that live together in an ecosystem
Niche
A role that each species plays in its community
Adaption
A structure of behavior that allows the animal to survive
Species
All members of the same population
Environment
All living things and non-living things around an organism
Ecosystem
An area where living an non-living things interact
Biome
Large Ecosystem Regions of the world (desert, grasslands, tundra, tropical rainforest, taiga, deciduous forest
Deciduous Forest
4 seasons, leaves fall of, average temperature 50 degrees F
Desert
Covers about 1/5 of the earth, hot and dry, Antartica is the largest desert
Taiga
Largest biome on earth, long cold winters and short mild wet summers, thick fur to keep warm over winter
Tundra
1/5 of earth, coldest biome on earth, reaches -50 degrees F
Tropical Rainforest
Close to equator, wet and warm all year, temperatures range from 70 to 80 degrees fahrenheit, lots of trees
Grasslands
Cold during winter and hot during the summer, most important plant is grass, most animals are herbivores that live in the grassland
Producer
Takes energy from the sun and makes it its own food
Consumer
An organism that feeds on other plants or animals
Decomposer
An organism that breaks down dead cells of plants or animals
Herbivore
Eats only plants
Carnivore
Eats only meat
Omnivore
Eats both plants and animals
Food Web
The chain from the producer or the source of it all to the consumer at the top on the food web, multiple food chains
Food Chain
Shows the organisms passing their energy to the other animals, only shows one thing that an organism eats
