Water On Earth Flashcards
Water Cycle
The Water Cycle is the repeated movement of water through the environment in different forms.
Evaporation
Changing of liquid to water vapor (liquid to gas).
Condensation
Water vapor turns to liquid (Gas to liquid). Condensation forms dew.
Precipitation
Water falls from a cloud as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
Runoff
Water moving downhill either on the surface or subsurface.
Accumulation
Water collecting at the lowest point.
Sublimation
Ice changing to water vapor without first melting.
Frost
Water vapor freezes without becoming a liquid.
Transpiration
When water from plant leaves evaporates.
- Can occur during photosynthesis
- Evaporates from leaves
- Factors that affect transpiration: Leaf type,Wind,Temperature,Humidity, Etc.
Cirrus Clouds
Thin wispy, white, (Made of ice crystals)
Vertical Clouds
Form vertically sometimes called Thunderheads or Cimulonimbus.
Cumulus Clouds
Bottoms look dark because little sunlight gets through. Puffy, cotton ball like, and small.
Stratus Clouds
Layered and cover the whole sky and look dark.
Fog
Stratus Cloud at Ground level.
Snow
Water Vapor frozen into ice crystals and then falling as a white layer on the ground.
