Physical Science Flashcards
Radiation
Heat caused by the sun
Convection
Heat caused by liquid or gas
Conduction
Heat caused by touch or physical contact
Physical Properties
A property that helps describe the object
Physical Changes
Changes that don’t change the chemical property but change the substance such as a gas, a liquid, or a solid.
Chemical Properties
A substance with properties that are only observable during a chemical change.
Chemical Changes
When a substance combines with another to create a new substance.
Average Speed
How far an object moves in an certain amount of time. “Speed = Distance/Time”
Velocity
The speed and direction an object is moving.
Friction
A force that occurs when two objects rub against on another.
Newton’s 1st Law
When an object in motion, it wants to stay in motion. When an object is at rest, it want to stay at rest, FOREVER! This is called Inertia.
Newton’s 2nd Law
When two forces on an object are balanced, the object does not move. When the forces are unbalanced, the object moves.
Newton’s 3rd Law
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
“Action / Reaction” Law
Force
Force is a movement of either a push or a pull.
