Water Management Strategies Flashcards
1
Q
Desalination plant- what it does and disadvantages
A
remove the salt from seawater to make it safe to drink.
Seawater can be heated until it is evaporated, leaving the salt behind.
They are very expensive and mostly powered by fossil fuels.
2
Q
Dams and reservoirs
A
Building a dam across a river traps water behind, creating a reservoir.
During a water surplus the reservoir will be full, when there’s a water deficit this water can be released and then used.
They are expensive and hard to build and can sometimes flood onto agricultural land.
