What is a spit and how is it formed
A
1.Spits form when there is a change in direction of the coastline.
2. This is because longshore drift transports sand and shingle in the direction of the prevailing wind over time.
3.spit grows and forms a hook
- An area behind the spit is sheltered from waves, so material accumulates and pants can grow
Over time a salt marsh or mud flat could be formed

A
1.A bar forms when a spit joins 2 headlands together
2. The bay between the 2 headlands gets cut off from the sea
3. A lagoon forms behind the bar
