Q

Why is city tap water considered to be an unnatural, processed substance?

A
  1. Contains a high amount of sodium.
  2. Heavily chlorinated and fluoridated.
  3. Some cities add calcium hydroxide to change the PH of the water.

Q

How does lead appear in our drinking water?

A

Corrosion of water pipes. Can be removed by reverse osmosis and solid carbon filter process.

Q

What is solid carbon block filtration?

A

Carbon is “activated” by exposing it to chemicals at high temperatures and steam in the absence of oxygen. The large carbon surface attract and absorb contaminants. Good at trapping larger chemicals but not inorganic molecules such as fluoride.

Q

What is reverse osmosis filtration?

A

The best way to purify water.
Water flows through a special membrane with micro-porous holes the size of water molecules.
These pores allow molecules to pass through while rejecting larger inorganic and organic materials.

Q

What is distillation?

A

Vaporizing water in one chamber then condensing it into liquid in a separate chamber.
Removes most minerals, organisms and chemicals from water.
-Some organic chemicals my re-condense on the other side of the chamber.

Q

How does cooking with de-mineralized water affect the nutritional value of the food being cooked.

A

Cooking food in de-mineralized water pulls more minerals from them.

Q

What factors influence the amount of water we need individually?

A

-Size
-Activity level
Both influence the amount of fluid we lose through sweat, climate, temperature or diet.
