What are the functions of water?
- lubrications of joints and eyes
- removal of waste products
- production of body fluids
- regulation of body temperature
- absorption of water soluble vitamins (Bit vits and vit c must be replaced everyday)
What do the kidneys do for fluid in our body?
The kidneys help balance out fluid in our body by controlling the amount of urine that is produced
When do people become thirsty?
When the concentration of your body sodium rises
What does drinking water do?
Causes the concentration of sodium to fall and the the thirst disappears
How much water do raw fruits and veg contain?
75%-95%water
How much water does butter and marg contain?
15% water
How much water do cereals contain?
12%water
What happens when large amounts of water are lost through sweat?
The sodium as well as the water is lost so the person may not feel thirsty and may develop the effects of dehydration without realising the danger.
Who needs to be reminded to drink water regularly?
Children and older people need to be reminded to drink as they may not recognise the sensation of being thirsty
