Do Cooling Towers have to be registered with the local Council?

A

Yes, all cooling towers must be registered with the Local Authority in which they are present. This is required by the Notification of Cooling Tower and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.

A

It lists all the water equipment installed on a system and identifies the risk they present.
It identifies any remedial works required to reduce the risks or repair the systems.

A

Little used and stagnant parts of water systems present a significant risk from bacteria thriving in water systems. There should be a schedule of little used outlets for every system and a regime of flushing them. Records of this activity should be kept.
