How often should smoke and heat detectors be tested by the application of smoke or heat?
All devices must be tested every 12 months. Records must be kept to prove it.
How often must break-glass units be tested?
All break glass units must be tested every 12 months. A testing program can be incorporated in the weekly sounder test program. Records must be kept to prove it.
Fire Doors. At what frequency must fire doors be inspected?
Every 6 months.
Can fire doors be repaired?
Yes but only with the approval of the manufacturer. This includes changing door closers, glazing, hinges and intumescent seals/brushes.
Fire Dampers are required to be serviced, inspected and operated at what frequency?
Electrically operated dampers require testing every 6 months. Mechanical, spring operated dampers require testing every 12 months.
Records of each damper and when it is tested need to be kept to prove it has been done.

Every 12 months
Where are service records kept for a fire extinguisher?
On the label stuck on the extinguisher.
How often should fire dry-risers be pressure tested?
Annually dry risers should be pressure tested with water and if possible flow tested from the highest hydrant.
