What are the functions of water?
A
- BLOOD- it is a component of blood that transports nutrients and oxygen around the body
- BLOOD PRESSURE: water helps to maintain blood pressure
- BOWEL HEALTH- prevent constipation
- CHEMICAL REACTIONS- assists reactions in the body eg. absorption of nutrients and digestion
- EXCRETION- water helps the kidneys to filter waste which is excreted as urine
- JOINTS- water provides liquid that keeps joints mobile
- SALIVA- key component of saliva which helps swallowing
- SPINAL FLUID- component of spinal fluid which cushions the nervous system
- TEMPERATURE CONTROL- regulate the body temperature via perspiration
- TEARS- form tears to lubricate eyes (prevent eyes becoming infected or dry)

What are the symptoms of dehydration?
A
> Thirst > Dark coloured urine (strong yellow) > Dizziness > Headache > Tiredness > Dry mouth, lips and eyes > Overheating of the body > Confusion > Changes in blood pressure
