Q

Engines - Start - W, Cx4, Nx8

A

Warning

If rotor movement occurs due to rotor brake slippage. Shutdown engines or release rotor brake

Caution

If start is attempted with ENG IGNITION switch off, Don’t place switch ON, Abort start.

Caution

Don’t move the ENG POWER CONT lever from IDLE to OFF while pressing starter button.

Caution

During ENG start and run-up ensure the cyclic is neutral. Collective no more than 1 inch above full down, pedals centered until NR reaches 50% minimum to prevent damage to anti-flap bracket bushings.

Caution

For starts with rotor brake off and during rotor engagement, cyclic inputs shall be minimized to prevent droop-stop pounding.

Note

Engines may be started with inop or uninstalled rotor brake

Note

MAIN XMSN PRESS caution is on and no pressure indication is on until rotor brake is released.

Note

During rotor brake operations there will be no NP or Q indications until rotor brake is released

Note

All No.1 and No.2 hydraulic pump cautions remain until rotor brake is released.

Note

FUEL PRESS LOW cautions may appear during start process and should disappear when engine stabilizes at ground idle

Note

The FUEL BOOST PUMP switches shall not be used to extinguish the FUEL 1 PRESS LOW or FUEL 2 PRESS LOW caution during and ENG start.

Note

If an ENG STARTED ON caution disappears when the starter button is released, and the ENG POWER CONT lever is OFF, The start attempt may be continued by pressing and holding the starter button until 52% to 65% NG speed is reached; then release starter button

Note

There is a one second delay between the time the starter disengages and the ENG STARTER ON caution disappears. Therefore, ENG Starter caution may remain on above 65% NG, but must be out by ENG idle.
