Warning Systems Flashcards
What does the PSEU light indicate in flight?
Inhibited from TL advance to 30’’ after landing
What could a PSEU light after landing indicate?
Overwing exit fails to disengage lock (the PSEU light will trigger an amber
MC)
What types of warnings are available to the crew
Aural, visual & tactile
What do the alert colours mean
Red = ‘’warning’’ required immediate attention Amber = ‘’caution’’ requires timely attention
Green = shows a fully extended or functioning state
Blue = information, pwr avail, valve position, status or transition Dim blue = system is in the caption config/position
Bright blue = system not in the caption config/position
White = information
Single channel faults are not show normally, how can you see them?
Pressing recall.
When do you switch from the MEL CDL to the QRH?
Company procedure, MEL up to TO, QRH once in flt
When will PASS OXY automatically deploy?
Cabin alt 14000ft
How long does the PASS OXY last?
Circa 12 mins`
Is PASS OXY automatically activated on drop?
No, one mask in each row has to be pulled down to trigger the chemical generator.
Should you activate PASS OXY for smoke in the cabin?
No, it mixes with the cabin air so won’t help. The flt deck supply to the masks is direct so is needed with smoke/fumes.
How can you distinguish between a TO CONFIG and CABIN ALT warning?
Both have an intermittent horn Most AC have red captions
TO CONFIG only on the ground
CABIN ALT only >10000ft`
How is the crew warned of stall? Can it be cancelled?
Stick shaker. Yes, by pulling CBs only under direction from the QRH
following ‘airspeed unreliable’.
When is the alt alerting system inhibited?
Flap >25 or GS captured
What triggers a EGPWS ‘’DON’T SINK’’
Excessive height loss after TO or GA
What would trigger a TO CONFIG warning?
On TL advance for TO:
-flap not 1-25, asymmetric or moving
-slats not configured, asymmetric or moving
-speed brake lever not down
-parking brake set
-Stab trim not in green TO band
-Spoiler control valve open giving hyd pressure to gnd spoiler interlock valve
When will the landing gear horn sound and can it be canx?
Flap TL angle RALT
0-10 <20 or <34 OEI 200-800ft Yes
0-10 <20 or <34 OEI <200ft No
15-25 <20 or <34 OEI Any No
30-40 Any Any No
If the wx radar isn’t selected on before TO do you lose windshear
protection?
No, but yes. Automatically selected on as TLs set to TO thrust, but circa 12
sec delay until returns can generate a warning.
Can the wx radar detect all windshear activity?
No. Requires particles (dust/water) in the air
When are predictive windshear alerts available?
Cautions +/-30 deg out to 3nm
‘’MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY’’ amber ‘WINDSHEAR’ on ND
Warnings on gnd+/-0.25nm out to 3nm
‘’WINDSHEAR AHEAD’’ = STOP if below V1. red ‘WINDSHEAR’ on ND and PFD
Warnings in air +/-0.25nm out to 1.5 nm
‘’GO AROUND WINDSHEAR AHEAD’’ red ‘WINDSHEAR’ on ND and PFD
When is reactive windshear warning available?
<1500ft RALT ‘’WINDSHEAR’’ calculated based on GPWS
(reactive cautions not enabled on company fleet)
When are predictive windshear alerts inhibited?
Below 2300ft detection starts
Below 1200ft warnings and cautions active To avoid overloading TO phase:
Below 400ft and >80 kts limited to warnings only
Below 50ft and >100kts all alerts inhibited
Scan width of WX radar?
Normally +/- 90 deg, when predictive windshear active +/- 60 deg
WX radar colours?
Green, amber, red based on increasing density. (Magenta = predicted turbulence)
WX radar turbulence?
WR+T = horizontal droplet movement of >5 meters per second Displayed/detected to a max of 40nm regardless of scale selected
