He was invited by Charles VIII who was the King of France at the time. Warbeck was treated as if he really was a prince.

He was keen to cause trouble for his traditional enemy, England, and supporting Warbeck was an ideal way in which to do this.

The coronation of Lambert Simnel took place on 24 May 1487. The Earl of Kildare Gerald Fitzgerald took charge of the cermony.
Who attended the coronation of Lambert Simnel in Ireland?
Simnel was dressed in magnificent robes and gowns. The powerful lords of Ireland surrounded him, including the Archbishop of Dublin. De la pole, Earl of Lincoln and Francis Lovell also sat at the event.
How did Henry deal with the threat from France?
In October 1492, Henry launched an invasion of France. As Charles was thinking about a war with Italy, he did not want the potentially expensive distraction of a war with England. As a result Charles immediately agreed to negotiate with Henry. The result of the negotiations was the Treaty of Etaples.
What was the singnifance of the Treaty of Etaples?
The treaty showed Henry’s worthiness as a military leader in taking on the traditional enemy, France, and he had restored English prestige which had been damaged by the failure to protect Brittany.
What were the terms of the Treaty of Etaples (1492)?
Charles agreed not to harbour Henry’s enemies. Henry also got an annual pension; France paid Henry 50,000 crowns per annum.
Why did James IV of Scotland stop supporting Warbeck?
After the lack of success of the 1496 invasion, James was growing disenchanted with Warbeck. James may have realised that Henry was too secure on the throne to be removed and that it would be too costly to try to attempt it.
What was the Truce of Ayton between Henry VII and James IV?
This was a seven-year truce between James and Henry where James also agreed to drop all support for Warbeck. James was to seal the truce by marrying Princess Margret in 1503.
What did Kildare do when Warbeck asked for Irish support?
After Simnel, Kildare was reluctant to get involved directly in Warbeck’s campaign; instead, he watched from the sidelines, neither helping nor stopping Warbeck.
