what is typhus?

A

spread through infected body lice, bacteria Rickettsia prowasekii. rat fleas, human body louse. (pedicures humanus corporis) lice feed on blood of sick individuals, move to other body, excrete bacteria. when human itches bite, bacteria gets in.
symptoms: sudden fever, headaches, chills and rash
rare today, but occurs with overcrowding and poor sanitation (like in military camps)
endemic typhus is deadliest form, 30-70% fatality rate

fight to refugee camps and urban slums

bubonic plague epidemic, and also to this day see birth defects
