Outcomes -> consultant plans the desired outcomes to be achieved
Activity planning -> consultant plans the team building activities and presents to the coach
Presentation -> the coach presents the team building activities to the team
Direct approach for teambuilding - consultant conducts the team building activities
Assessment -> the needs of the team is assessed with stakeholders
Strategy -> consultant plans desired outcomes, methods, and evaluation methods
Implementation -> icebreaker activities; settings rules and expectations; team building exercises; debriefing
Evaluation -> consultant will follow up with coach and team members and conduct an evaluation of effectiveness of methods used
How teams are different to groups
- only in teams do members share responsibility
- only team members focus on achieving shared goals
- only in teams are members highly dependent
Teams
- the consultancy process should be focussed on enhancing the key psychological attributes of teams
- the consultant can use techniques that are either directly related to the task the team performs or they can be unrelated
Cohesive alliance
• Cohesive alliance is typically a central focus for consultants.
- It is argued that the most important aspect of team building is developing team cohesion.
Two aspects
• Social cohesion – the team has good interpersonal relationships and enjoy working together
• Task cohesion – how the team works together to achieve a common goal
