Job demands and resources model
Causes: job insecurity, loss of control, role ambiguity
Symptoms: burnour and job disasstifacion
Model suggests that:
* When job demands are high, job positives are low –> stress and burnour are common and likely
* Good job positives can offset the effects of extreme job demands
Primary drivers of the job demands and resources model
Job demand:
* Physical and emotional stress in the role
* e.g. heavy workload, stressful working environment, role ambiguity, poor relationships
Job resources/job positives
* Physical, social and organisational factors, focusing on achieving goals and reducing stress
*e.g. autonomy, strong work relationships, opportunities to advance, coaching and mentoring, learning and development
Model of resilience:
Causes: individual differences in capacities for resilience
Symptoms: poor wellbeing in response to change
Lack of resilience capacies –> rigid thinking styles
Resilient people –> flexibiity, ability to cope with uncertainty, being mindful of their professional values
Social identity theory:
Causes: intergroup conflict
Symptom: difficulty working together
Seeing ingroup members with individual differeces, and outgroup memebers are homogenised and stereotyped
Intervention strategy for burnour and job dissatisfaction
Coaching, development and encouragement
e.g. encourage job crafting to find meaning in new roles; facilitate a more proactive appraoch to problems
Intervention strategy for individual differces in wellbeing, as a response to change
Resilience training
