W1 : Steady State Concentration Flashcards
Minimum Toxic Concentration (MTC)
&
Clinical Significance
MTC refers to the lowest concentration of a drug in the blood that BEGINS TO PRODUCE toxic effects in the body.
top line
CS: determining safe dosage limits, ensuring efficacy w/o causing toxicity.
Therapeutic Range (TR) & CS
TR refers to the concentration range of a drug in the blood stream where it PRODUCES THE DESIRED EFFECT w/o causing toxicity.
CS- ensures safe & effective drug use. within this range) MEC where the drug reliefs the pain and MTC where there are no rest. distress.
Minimum Effective Concentration (MEC
&
CS
MEC refers to the minimum concentration in the bloodstream required to produce therapeutic effect.
CS- MEC is critical in determining the correct dosage of medications.
Steady State Concentration (SSC) & CS
- where there is a consistent conc. of drug in blood stream as the rate of the drug administration is equal to the rate of drug elimination.
CS: maintaining tr w/o reaching toxicity.
