W. CXR Flashcards
Describe Alveolar densities
Confluent, coalescent, hazy, fluffy, ill-defined
Can be subsegmental, segmental, lobar, or diffuse
Alveolar Densities diseases
Pneumonia CHF / PEdema Atelectasis Neoplasia Uremia ADRS
Aspiration Pneumonia
An infectious process secondary to aspiration of the oropharyngeal or gastric contents
Aspiration pneumonitis
Inflammatory change secondary to the aspiration of chemicals, usually from the stomach
Describe interstitial densities
Reticular (strandy, linear), nodular, or reticulonodular, fine or course, honeycomb
Interstitial Densities
Emphysema Bronchiectasis Asthma Kerley's Lines in CHF/Pul Edema Pneumonconiosis - silicosis/ asbestosis Cystic Fibrosis Interstitial Fibrosis
Hamman’s Sign

Obstructive Lung Disease characterized by:
- Obstruction of bronchial airway flow
- Increase in airway resistance
- increase in Residual volume
Restrictive Lung Disease characterized by:
- reduced lung volume
- loss of lung and airway compliance
- restriction on expansion (stiffness)
- reduced TLC
- reduced VC
- reduced resting lung volume
Westermark’s Sign
