What is instrumental voting?
Voting behaviour motivated by self-interest
What is class dealignment?
Process where individuals no longer identify themselves as belonging to a certain class and do not vote for the party they would be expected to based upon their background.
What is partisan dealignment?
Process where individuals no longer identify themselves on a long-term basis as being associated with a certain political party.
What is apathy?
A lack of interest or concern
What is disillusion?
Disappointment from discovering that something is not as good as you believed it to be.
What is valence?
Judging parties and politicians NOT on their manifestos, but on their character. This could be linked to how a party or politician will address a specific issue (known as: valence issues)
What is positional voting?
Voters choose a party based on its position on one or a group of issues.
What is expressive voting?
Voting behaviour motivated by altruistic reasons
