Rules governing the state all contained under one source (USA)
What is a uncodified constitution?
Rules governing the state which are separated and not written down in one document.
What are some benefits of codified constitutions?
They are entrenched (Protected by law)
Rights are more clearly understood
Power is given to the supreme court to strike down government legislation.
What are some benefits of uncodified constitutions?
Amendments can be made relatively easy - devolution acts
Supreme court will have too much power under a codified constitutions - and they are unelected.
It is flexible - creates more efficient government, it is not as rigid as the American system.
