Volumetric Analysis Flashcards
Volumetric analysis involves
Carrying out a titration; during the titration, a chemical reaction takes place
What is a quantitative reaction
One which goes to completion i.e. all of the reactants are converted to products according to the balanced equation
What is a standard solution
A solution of accurately know concentration
What is titration used to determine
The volumes of solution required to reach the end-point of a chemical reaction, accurately
What is the end point of a reaction
The point at which the reaction is just complete
How is the end point of a reaction indicated
Using indicator that changes colour
Acid-base titrations
- based on neutralisation reactions
- use pH indicator solutions
Concordant
Titre volumes within 0.2 cm^3
Redox titrations
Based on redox reactions
Why is indicator not needed for titrations using acidified permanganate
Purple permanganate solution turns colourless when reduced (it is self indicating)
