Rafter
Any series of small, parallel beams for supporting the sheathing and covering of a pitched roof.
Rainscreen principle
A concept for preventing the penetration of wind-driven rain through a wall, utilizing a rainscreen backed by a confined air space to shield an inner barrier where the primary air barrier is located.
Rake end
The extension of a gable roof beyond the end wall along its slope.
Reglet
A groove cut or formed in a vertical surface to receive flashing.
Reinforcing bar
Aka Rebar, a steel bar for reinforcing concrete specified by the structural engineer.
Ridge board
A horizontal line of intersection at the top between the sloping planes of a roof.
Rim joist
Aka Header joist, a joist set on top of the sill and forming the perimeter of a wood-frame floor.

The vertical face of a stair step.
Rough grade
The level of the ground around a building following modifications to the site by heavy machinery.

Fixed or movable framework of a window in which panes of glass are set.
