Flue
An enclosed passageway for conveying flue gases
Footing
A wider part, usually made of concrete, at the bottom of a foundation which spreads the building load to that the soil or rock can support it.
Foundation
The construction through which the loads from the building are transferred to a supporting soil or rock.
Foundation wall
A wall occurring below the floor nearest grade, designed to support and anchor the superstructure.
French drain
Plastic perforated pipe or ceramic pipe used for subsurface drainage around a foundation system.
Frost line
The maximum depth at which the soil freezes.
Furring
Wood or metal strips attached to a wall or other surface so as to provide an even base for a finish material.
Gable end
Aka Eave, the extension of a gable roof beyond the end wall.
Glazing
Panes or sheets of glass set in the sashes of a window. Single, double, or triple refers to the number of sheets of glass in the glazing unit.
Grade
The lowest of the average levels of finished ground adjoining each exterior wall of a building.
