Sealant
Aka Caulking, any of various viscous substances injected into a building joint, curing to form a flexible material that adheres to the surrounding surfaces and seals the joint against the passage of air and water.
Semi-permeable
Materials with a permeance of 10 perms or less and greater than 1.0 perm (plywood, OSB, latex paint)
Shallow foundation
A foundation that derives its support from soil or rock located close to the lowest part of the building that it supports
Sill
Lowermost member of a frame structure, resting on and anchored to a foundation wall
Sleeper
Wood strips laid upon a concrete slab to provide a means of attaching a subfloor to flooring
Sliding window
A window with two or more sashes which slide along horizontal tracks.
Soil
That portion of the earths crust that is fragmentary ; it includes boulders, cobbles, gravel, sand, silt, clay or organic matter
Stain
A solution of dye or a suspension of pigment in a vehicle applied to penetrate or colour a wood surface
Stair
One of a flight or series of steps for going from one level to another
Storey
That portion of a building that is situated between the top of any floor and the top of the floor next above it, and if there is no floor above it, that portion between the top of such floor and the ceiling above it.
