Biological Bases of Behavior
Explores the ways in which biological factors impact behavior, biological factors are things like genetics and hormones
Neurons
Nerve cells that send messages all over your body to allow you to do everything from breathing to talking, eating, walking, and thinking
Lobes
Frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobes, a lobe is part of an organ that appears to be separate in some way from the rest
Limbic System
A group of interconnected brain structures that help regulate your emotions and behavior
Synapse
The junction that allows the signal to pass between neurons
Amygdala
The “guard dog” of a persons brain which contains the fight or flight emotions
Hippocampus
Regulates learning, memory encoding, memory consolidation, and spatial navigation
Hypothalamus
The “control center” (think of inside out)
Thalamus
Your body’s information relay station, processing thoughts and emotions.
Pituitary Gland
Regulate vital bodily functions and general wellbeing
Basal Ganglia
Responsible for motor control
