Describe vitreomacular traction?
A
- Vitreous abnormally adheres to macula, causing elevation +/- distortion
- Traction on macula caused as vitreous separates from retina – leading to elevation & distortion of fovea
- Usually, asymptomatic
o May lead to FTMH in a few pxs - May cause metamorphopsia/blurring – so some pxs may be v symptomatic
- V commonly seen on OCT
- Uncommon for px to require treatment

Vitreomacular traction management?
A
- If asymptomatic:
o None as does not need treatment
o Do not refer - If symptomatic:
o Vitrectomy & peel
o Ocriplasmin (Jetrea): £2500 per injection, less effective than vitrectomy, complications are both rare & understood
