Choroidal Folds Flashcards
1
Q
What are choroidal folds?
A
- Indulations of choroid – corregated appearance
o Similar to epiretinal membrane but epiretinal membrane is sitting on top of retina and only inner most layer
o Choroidal folds only happen at choroid – so can affect all subsequent layers of retina – so seen in all layers not just top layer - Due to compressive stress on choroid
- Orbital disease/scleral disease/choroidal congestion
2
Q
What are the causes of choroidal folds?
A
- Causes:
o Idiopathic
o Hypermetropia
o Papilloedema
o Orbital disease
o Ocular disease - Important that these pxs get scanned as the orbital disease is serious – most will be idiopathic or due to hypermetropia though
3
Q
Symptoms of choroidal folds?
A
- Usually asymptomatic
4
Q
Management of choroidal folds?
A
- Need careful ocular examination
- Scan to exclude orbital pathology
- Treatment of underlying cause
- Choroidal folds themselves to not need treatment
