Visual system (pt 2) NOT FINISHED Flashcards
What are the 2 types of lens?
Converging lens (convex) - Light rays in
Diverging lens (concave)- Light rays out
What is emmetropia?
When Light falls onto the retina correctly
What is ametropia?
Refractive error, when light rays don’t fall on the retina
What are some examples of ametropia?
-Myopia
-Hyperopia
-Astigmatism
-Presbyopia
What is myopia?
When light rays converge anterior to the retina
Symptoms of myopia?
-Blurred distance vision
-Squinting to improve uncorrected visual acuity
-Headache
How to treat myopia?
Correction with:
-Diverging lens
-Contact lens
-Removing lens to reduce refractive power of the eye
What is hyperopia?
Light focuses behind the retina
What are the physiological causes of hyperopia?
insufficient refracting power
Symptoms of hyperopia
visual acuity near/close tends to blur
What is astigmatism?
Where light rays focus in two points rather than one
What is presbyopia?
Naturally occurring loss of accommodation (focus on near objects).
