Visual Manoeuvring (circling) Flashcards
What is the obstacle clearance altitude/height?
The lowest altitude/height above elevation of the relevant runway threshold or above aerodrome elevation as applicable with appropriate obstacle clearance criteria.
What does Visual Manoeuvring (Circling) VM(c) in the vicinity of Aerodromes describe?
The visual phase of flight, after completing and instrument approach. Where and aircraft is manoeuvred into position for a landing in a runway which is suitably located for a straight in approach.
What is the VM(c) Area?
Area in which obstacle clearance has been considered for aircraft manoeuvring visually before landing. Determined by drawing arcs centred on each runway thresholds and jointing arcs with tangent lines
What are the criteria that effects VM(c)radius arcs?
4 things
- A/C type
- Speed of Category
- Windspeed: 25 its throughout turn
- Bank angle: Rate 1 turn or 20 degrees average. Whichever is less
Where a sector within the VM(c) area contains obstacles that would make the OCH normally operationally unacceptable. It is permissible to eliminate this sector from the total VM(c) area, where the sector lies outside the Final and MAP. areas. Will contain 2 VM(c) OCHs:
1) whole area
2) the area excluding the excluding the eliminated sector

What is weight of a super(J)?
MTOM 560,000kg
What is weight of heavy (H) aircraft?
136,000kgs or more MTOM
Weight of Medium aircraft (M)?
Less than 136,000kgs but more than 7,000kgs
What is the weight for light (L) aircraft?
7,000kgs or less.
Do you have to acknowledge a super on the R/T?
Yes
What is a Category 1 aircraft (in regards to Reduced Runway Separation?)
Single propeller engine aircraft MTOM 2,000kgs or less
What is a Category 2 aircraft (RRS)?
Single engine propeller MTOM more than 2,000kgs less than 7,000kgs. Or twin engine Propeller engine with MTOM less than 7,000kgs
What is a Category 3 aircraft (RRS)?
All other aircraft
RRSM shall not be applied between departing and a preceding landing aircraft
True
When can Reduced Runway Separation minima be applied?
During Daylight hours only
Reduced runway separation minima is subject to what 7 Conditions?
1) Wake Turbulence Separation at all times
2) Visibility 5km and ceiling not lower than 1,000ft(300m)
3) Tailwind component not exceeding 6kts
4) Landmarks or Surveillance System that helps the ATCO assess distances and provides position information
5) Min Separation continues to exist between 2 departing aircraft after take-off
6) Traffic Information provided to flight crew of succeeding aircraft
7) Breaking action not effect by runway contaminants
A succeeding landing Cat 1 aircraft may cross the runway threshold when the preceding Cat 1 or 2 aircraft has either (2 things)
A)landed past a point at least 600m from the threshold
B) Airborne and passed a point 600m from the threshold
A succeeding landing Cat 2 aircraft may cross the runway threshold when the preceding Cat 1 or 2 aircraft has either (2 things)
A) Landed and Passed a point at least 1500m from the threshold and vacate without back tracking
B) Airborne and passed a point at least 1500m from the threshold
A succeeding landing aircraft may cross the runway threshold when the preceding Cat 3 aircraft has either (2 things)
A) Landed and passed a point at least 2400m from the threshold and vacates the runway without back tracking
B) Airborne and has pas passed a point at least 2400m from the threshold
Category 1 aircraft may be cleared for takeoff when the preceding departing Category 1 or 2 aircraft is airborne passed a point?
Of 600m from Position of succeeding aircraft
Category 2 aircraft may be cleared for takeoff when the preceding departing Category 1 or 2 aircraft is airborne passed a point?
At least 1500m from position of succeeding aircraft
Category 3 aircraft may be cleared for takeoff when the preceding departing aircraft is airborne passed a point?
At least 2400m from the succeeding aircraft
Who is responsible for ensuring spacing is from the preceding heavier aircraft is acceptable?
The P.I.C
