Definitions Flashcards
Define AD traffic circuit
Specified path to be flown by aircraft operating in the vicinity of an aerodrome
Define Runway Holding Position
A designated holding position intended to protect a runway (obstacle limitation surface) or ILS/MLS critical/sensitive area at which taxiing aircraft and vehicles shall stop and hold, unless authorised by the AD control tower.
Define a Manoeuvring Area.
Part of an Aerodrome to be used for take-off, landing and taxiing of aircraft, excluding aprons.
Define movement area
Part of an aerodrome to be used for take-off, landing, taxing of aircraft, consists of the manoeuvring area and the aprons.
Define Runway
A defined rectangular area on a land aerodrome prepared for landing and taking off of aircraft
Define Non-Instrument Runway
A runway intended for the operation of aircraft using visual Approach procedures
Define instrument runway
One of the following types of runways intended for operation of aircraft using instrument approach procedures
Non-Precision Approach
An instrument runway served by visual aids providing at least directional guidance Adequate for a straight in approach
Define Apron
A defined area intended to accommodate aircraft for the purpose of loading/unloading passengers, mail and cargo or fuelling parking or maintenance.
Define taxiing
Movement of aircraft on the surface of an aerodrome under its own power, excluding takeoff and landing.
Define aerodrome elevation
Elevation of highest point on landing area
Define Aerodrome Reference point
Designated geographical location of an aerodrome. Usually centre of longest runway.
Define aircraft stand taxi lane
A portion of an apron designated as a Taxiway and intended to provide access to aircraft stands only.
Define Apron Taxiway
A portion of a Taxiway system located on an Apron and intended to provide through taxi route across the Apron.
Define Rapid exit Taxiway
A Taxiway connected at an acute angle and designed to allow landing aeroplanes to turn off at higher speeds than achieved on other exit taxiways, thereby minimising runway occupancy.
Between 25 and 45 degrees
Define hot spot
A location on an aerodrome movement area with history or potential risk of collision or potential risk collision or runway incursions and where heightened attention is required by pilots and drivers is necessary
Describe holding bays/points
They’re no closer to centre line than the edge of clear and graded area.
