Vison 2: fluid system of the eye Flashcards
1
Q
Definition of Aqueous humour
A
Clear, Basic fluid filling anterior and posterior chambers of the eye (in front of Lens), continuously formed and drained
2
Q
enumerate functions of Aqueous Humour
A
- Maintain intraocular Pressure (IOP)
- Supply Nutrients and oxygen to cornea and lens
- It is 1 of the optical media of the eye
- Drains metabolites from the area
3
Q
Describe formation of Aqueous Humour
A
- Active Transportation of Na+ from cillary body to Posterior chamber by Na+ K+ pump
- This cause passive movement of Negative ions into Posterior chamber as well (Cl-, HCO3-)
- Carbonic Anhydrase helps secretion of HCO3-
- As a result, this causes osmosis of water into Posterior chamber from blood, Along with Active transporation of Glucose and Amino Acids
- It diffuses into anterior chamber by passing through pupil
4
Q
Describe Drainage of Aqueous Humour
A
- At Irido-corneal Angle, exists Meshwork of trabeculae, where Aqueous humour passes through it
- Then through** canal of Schlem**
- Then into Episcleral Vein
5
Q
Describe the Vitrous Humour
A
- Transparent
- contains Hyaluronic acid & Albumin for viscousity
- Supplies retina with glucose
