Sensory 2: Sensory Code Flashcards
Define sensory Code
The ability of the CNS to recognise Modality, Locality, Intensity of sensation
Laws of Modality of Sensory code
Adequate stimulus:
Each receptor is highly sensitive to 1 type of stimulus
Muller’s Law:
each stimulus gives to 1 type of receptors
Labeled line principle:
Each sensation reaches CNS through a specific pathway
Laws of Locality of Sensory Code
Law of projection:
seperate reperesntation area in cerebral cortex for each body part (point to point representation)
Phantom limb phenomenon:
pressure in stump of amputated limb causes the patient to feel pain in the place of the absent limb
Laws of Intensity of Sensory Code
Number of Receptors Activated by Stimulus:
Higher stimulus Intensity recruits more Receptors at receptive field
Frequency of Impulses:
Frequency of Action potentials Generated Directly proportional with Intensity of Stimulus
