VISION Flashcards
What features can the visual system encode?
- size
- colour
- shape
- contrast
- texture
- intensity (brightness)
- location
- motion direction
- motion speed
- rotation
- depth
- recognition
Are features that the visual system can encode encoded quickly?
yes
What does the lens do?
focuses light on retina
What does the pupil do?
increase/decrease amount of light that goes through
What does the iris do?
increase/decrease amount of light that goes through
Where can complex visual transformations occur?
at the level of the retina
What sculpts RGC responses?
horizontal and vertical information flow
What do different retinal ganglion cell (RGC) types in the retina carry?
all sorts of complicated information to the brain
What do visual illusions reveal?
complexities of visual processing
What is the interposition monocular cue?
an object is in front of another object, indicating that it’s closer
What is the relative size monocular cue?
all objects are same size, but ones that are closer appear larger
What is the linear perspective monocular cue?
becomes narrower as you get farther
What is the height in plane monocular cue?
appear higher as it gets farther
What is the texture gradient monocular cue?
closer things have rougher texture
What is the light and shadow monocular cue?
