Q

Two ways in which viruses are released?

A

Some viruses destroy the host cell to release new viruses. This is known as lyses. In other cases, viruses are released via membrane budding.

Q

Key difference in how a DNA virus replicates compared to a RNA virus?
N and H spikes on an influenza virus.

A

The only difference is that the RNA must be copied first, than some is used to make viral DNA in a process known as reverse transcription.
Haemaglutinin and neuraminidose.

Q

What is antigenic drift?

A

New strains of influenza virus emerge due to the gradual process known as antigenic drift, in which mutations within the virus antibody binding sites accumulate over time.

Q

HIV AIDS

A

Invades T lymphocyte cells.
The pathogen - a virus - HIV, human immunodeficiency virus.
The disease - caused by the pathogen/virus acquired immune deficiency syndrome. The immune cannot defend itself against other infectious agents. People with HIV AIDS are easily affected by other pathogens that would be controlled by a healthy immune system

Q

Basic structure and two types

A

All viruses contain nucleic acid, a capsid and an envelope, and some viruses contain spikes. The two types are DNA viruses and RNA viruses
