Viruses Flashcards
How are antibodies are made and what is the purpose?
Antibodies identify viruses in neutralization tests, viral hemagglunation, and western blot.
List three viruses hat can cause cancer
Some viruses that cause cancer is HPV 4 which is mononucleosis. Papilloma virus and hepatitis C
List the six steps of viral replication
Six steps of viral replication if it is enveloped Attach to membrane by glycoproteins Perform endocytosis The enzyme protease uncovers the capsid Biosynthesis production of proteins Capsid proteins assemble Release by budding
What are the 8 characteristics of life
DNA, response to environment, evolutionary, regulation, order, growth and development, energy processing and reproduction. Everything on the left which are eukarya and bacteria and archea are considered living. Viruses are not considered living because of missing characteristics.
Three types of proteins found in a virion
Glycoproteins that stick the viruses onto the host cell membrane
Capsid proteins that cover the Nucleiod region
Enzymes like protease, integrate and reverse transcriptase.
Describe the one step viral growth
One step viral growth compares the number of virions and how many days it grows. It has an eclipse period where virions are not present because they are inside the host cell. In the eclipse period replication occurs, once coming out it will increase the number of virions.
