A

What type of DNA genomes exists?
ds and ss, circular linear, also ds circular gapped

What do you need to initiate DNA synthesis?
Ori that needs to be recognized by protein, so that DNA synthesis by polymerase can start

What is the ori of replication?
Ori is the origin of replication, genes can have multiple oris or just one (monocistronic). Ori is a short sequence on genome that can be recognized by proteins to initiate DNA synthesis

What problem do linear DNA viruses face?
5’ end problem at lagging strand end, polymerase cant add nucleotide to 5’OH, so other soulutions including self priming (partical circulazation Pox, circulazation Herpes) and protein priming via terminal protein (Adeno) help to overcome this problem

Where does DNA and RNA viruses replication take place?
DNA Viruses replicate in nucleus except for Polio, RNA Viruses +strand replicate in cytoplasm, -strand viruses replicate in nucleus mostly like Infleunza, Retroviruses make RT thats also inserted into host genome in nucleus

Examples of DNA viruses that use host or own DdDp’s
Herpes, Adenovirus, Poxvirus, Adeno use own

Why can DNA viruses have larger genomes than RNA viruses?
replication via DdDp has proofreading function which makes it possible to have more bp without harmfull mutations

Replication strategy of DNA Virus in nucleus whereas RNA Viruses mostly in cytoplasm (space limited + immune system)

DNA Viruses can use more gene regulation mechanisms

What is the strategy of ssDNA viruses for replication?
they need to form dsDNA first, that is done via DdDp from host, the dsDNA then can work as template for transription of mRNA or to gain ssDNA genome
