Neonatal HSV
Acyclovir (not cure but decrease severity and recurrence)
VZV
Acyclovir (oral) ⬇️ severity if given early, within 48hrs
Herpes zoster virus
The goals of management of HZ include: minimize pain;
•reduce viral shedding;
•speed crusting of lesions and healing;
•ease physical, psychological, and emotional discomfort;
•prevent viral dissemination or other complications;
•prevent or minimize PHN
●Herpes Zoster Rx
•Antiviral treatment begun <72 hours accelerates healing of skin lesions, decreases the duration of acute pain, and may decrease the frequency of PHN.
Acyclovir (800mg po qid 7 to 10 days)
Valacyclovir(1000mg po tid for 7 days)
Famiciclovir (500mg po tid for 7 days)
Post herpetic neuralgia [PHN]
Amitriptyline with carbamazepine, doxepin or capsaicin cream
Cutaneous wart
1.Patient-Initiated Therapy
•For small lesions: salicylic acid and lactic acid in collodion
•For large lesions: 40 % salicylic acid plaster for 1 week, then application of salicylic acid- lactic acid in collodion
2.Physician Initiated Therapy
• Cryosurgery
• Electro surgery
• CO2 Laser Surgery
• Surgery
• Hyperthermia for Verruca Plantaris note: Cutaneous HPV infections usually resolve spontaneously in immunocompetant.
