Herpes zoster virus

A

The goals of management of HZ include: minimize pain;
•reduce viral shedding;
•speed crusting of lesions and healing;
•ease physical, psychological, and emotional discomfort;
•prevent viral dissemination or other complications;
•prevent or minimize PHN

●Herpes Zoster Rx
•Antiviral treatment begun <72 hours accelerates healing of skin lesions, decreases the duration of acute pain, and may decrease the frequency of PHN.
Acyclovir (800mg po qid 7 to 10 days)
Valacyclovir(1000mg po tid for 7 days)
Famiciclovir (500mg po tid for 7 days)
