Syphilis

- 1°, 2°, early latent
Standard Current Treatment ▪︎Benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million ut IM ▪︎Non-pregnant, penicillin-allergic

▪︎HIV-infected persons
Benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million units IM/wk for 3 weeks - Late latent, unknown duration, 3° without neuro cxn
▪︎Benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million units IM weekly for 3 consecutiveweeks. ▪︎Non-pregnant, penicillin-allergic

▪︎Aqueous crystalline penicillin
▪︎Procaine penicillin plus probenecid
▪︎Patients who are allergic to penicillin ideally should be hospitalized,
desensitized, and treated with penicillin - Syphilis in pregnancy
▪︎Treat with penicillin according to stage of infection.
▪︎Erythromycin is not an acceptable alternative drug in penicillin-allergic patients.
▪︎Patients who are allergic to penicillin should be desensitized in the hospital and treated with penicillin. - Epidemiologic treatment
▪︎Sexual contacts to 1°, 2° or early latent syphilis or syphilis of unknown duration should be treated as cases of primary syphilis
