What is the rate of violent crime in Canada compared to the USA?
In Canada, the violent crimes rate are 2x lower than in the USA.
What is homicide?
Someone causes someone else’s death. Intentional or not.
What is murder?
Someone who intentionally causes the death of someone or causes bodily harm likely to cause death.
What is first-degree murder?
Homicide planned or deliberate, involves the death of a peace officer, correctional worker , or occurs while doing another crime.
Why is the murder of a police/peace officer considered first-degree murder?
Because it is seen as a crime against the state. So 25 years of prison.
What is a 2nd-degree murder?
Intentional, unlawful but unplanned
What is manslaughter?
A non-intentional homicide committed in response to sudden provocation. Also as a result of impairment. If someone doesn’t do their jobs and someone dies is also manslaughter.
Masse is mass murder?
Illegal killing of 4 or more victims at one location withing one event.
Why do we say that a mass murder has to be an “illegal” killing?
Because cops don’t count.
Explain robbery.
Ulawful taking or attemped taking of property that is in the immediate possession + threatned or actual use of force.
Are most people doint robbery armed?
58% are unharmed. 12% firearms in canada.
Describe what is a hate crime?
Criminal directed toward person or group because race, sex, sexual orientation, etc.
What is an “aggravating circumstance” an is a hate crime considered one?
Its something that makes a crime worst. Hate crime is indeed one.
Which group of people are most affected by hate crimes in Canada?
83% black people.
Jewish people and institutions.
What is terrorism?
Unlawful use of force or violence agaisnt people or property to intimidate or coerce a govt, civilian population, for political or social ( not military )objectives. Random people
