PTSD
Freeze - Flight - Fight - Fright
PTSD diagnosis
more than 30 days
experiencing symptoms which make it impossible to function
- reliving event (at least 1)
- avoiding area/people involved in event (at least 3)
- always waiting for something else to happen (at least 2) (easily distractible = response to fear)
CPTSD: COMPLEX
Freeze - Flight - Fight - Fright - Flag - Faint
flag: not thinking about feelings (dampen down emotions - self-medicate more)
faint: dissociate from experience and feelings (everything/everyone automatically becomes a threat) “me against the world feeling”
CPTSD diagnosis
prolonged and repeated interpersonal trauma
Treatment
cognitive reconstructuring: help them understand what happened to them
TF cognitive behavioral therapy:
systematic desensitization - teaches relaxation
implosion therapy - person flooded with images and stimuli to provoke anxiety
Non traditional treatment
EMDR: rapid eye movements while person is thinking about trauma and then thinks about something else
