VII - Automated Decision Making Flashcards
Automated Decision Making
Decision-making without human involvement.
Machine Learning
Learns by experience and develops skills without the involvement of humans. Not inherently biased, by the data that drives it could be.
Deep Learning
A subset of machine learning. Learns by performing a task repeatedly, making adjustments along the way.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The simulation of human intelligence using machines and computers. Capable of learning, reasoning and evaluating.
Social bots are a common example.
Context aware computing
Allows computer/device to adapt to environment. Think of a phone automatically adjusting brightness based on lighting in the room.
Internet Monitoring
Includes wifi eavesdropping, targeted advertising, and authoritative web traffic monitoring (e.g. the CCP).
Web tracking
Occurs when websites track visitors and build profiles for advertising and personalization. Users should be notified of this tracking.
Location tracking
Geolocation tracking. When used, it should provide a direct benefit to users and have an opt-in.
Audio and Video surveillance
Hidden cameras, microphones, CCTV, and even smartphones and laptops. Should identify a need, inform individuals and obtain consent before using.
