III Data Dissemination Flashcards
disclosure
When credible and private information is revealed about someone in a way that impacts how others view them. Intentional, unlike insecurity (negligence).
distortion
When false, inaccurate information is spread about someone (e.g. slander).
exposure
The revelation of concealed, intensely personal information (nudity, grief, bodily functions). This is why HIPAA exists.
breach of confidentiality
Disclosure of information that was shared in private.
Increased accessibility
The internet makes info more readily available (you can more easily find out about someone’s past). The GDPR introduced the “right to be forgotten” for this reason.
Blackmail
The threat to disclose someone’s personal information against their will.
Appropriation
Using someone’s identify for someone else’s purpose. An example would be non-contractual celebrity endorsements.
