Privacy Engineer
A speciality discipline of systems engineering that’s focused on preventing conditions that lead to the exposure of PII.
Predictability (Privacy Engineering)
Reliable assumptions about a system, particularly when it concerns data and the processing of said data by stakeholders.
Manageability (Privacy Engineering)
The ability to granularly administer personal information, including modification, disclosure and deletion.
Disassociability (Privacy Engineering)
The minimization of connections between data and individuals to the extent that’s allowed by operational requirements.
Design Patterns to Emulate
Solutions that improve the development of technology systems.
Dark patterns to avoid
Solutions that manipulate individuals into giving up information. These represent decisional interference, as they psychologically pressure individuals into a decision.
Privacy Zuckering (dark pattern)
Hiding default privacy settings from the user.
Bad default (dark pattern)
When the default option encourages the sharing of information.
Forced registration (dark pattern)
Forcing the user to register in order to use the service when it’s not technically necessary.
Immortal Accounts
Preventing a user from deleting their account or complication the process.
