victims invite victimisation by being the kind of person they are

victims have contributed to their own victimisation, and so we should focus on personal responsibility to avoid being a victim

26% of 588 homicides involved victim precipitation as the victim triggered the events
what are the four evaluation points about positivists explaining victimology?
1-blames victim not offender
2-downplays role of law, police and other agencies in not taklimg crime effectively
3-focuses too much on individual characteristics
4- ignores unwittingly victims
what would feminists say about positivists?
they blame females for rape and dv
-leads to secondary victimisation, with only 3% of rape allegations being prosecuted in court
what does the critical belief belief about victims?
they focus on the structural issues, such as poverty, racism and social exclusion causing victimisation
what was the point young came up with as part of the critical belief of victims?
New inclusionism
what is new inclusionism?
we need to re-integrate the excluded back into society, tackle wealth, discrimination and end massive differences in wages.
-this will lead to less victims
what are the two evaluation points of the critical view of victims?
1-ignore the victim precipitation and proneness
2- Not a practical solution, as it is too expensive and costly
