VFR Nav Flashcards
Outline the pre HAT checks
Heading = set heading bug and set CDI to desired track Altitude/Airspeed = make sure speed is as planned and check altitude for next leg Time = reset and start the timer at the turning point
Outline the post HAT checks
Heading = confirm heading and track are set as the same on the FLOG Altitude/airspeed = confirm speed and altitude are as planned Time = confirm timer is running
What should follow HAT checks?
Gross error check
Confirm next ECF
Work out ETA and write in FLOG
R/T
What the methods of recovering planned track?
SCA
Double track error
See to, fly to
What is the formula for SCA
60/TAS (where is in nm/min)
What is the SCA for the DA42
25 degrees
How long should the SCA be flown for each mile off track?
1 minute
How much time should be added when doglegging around a hazard?
30 deg = 1/4 of time
45 deg = 1/2 of time
60 deg = 1 time
e.g. if flying offset by 30 degrees for 2 minutes then 30 seconds must be added to ETA
List the order for planning a diversion
1) check route for CAS
2) request CAS clearance if required
3) draw and estimate track
4) calculate heading
5) calculate GS
6) plot 6 minute markers
7) calculate total time for leg
8) work out ETA
9) determine fuel required for leg
10) study route for prominent features
11) work out MSA
12) set up navaids
How many miles will be covered in 6 minutes when flying at the following speeds?
110kts 120kts 130kts 140kts 150kts 160kts 170kts
110kts = 11nm 120kts = 12nm 130kts = 13nm 140kts = 14nm 150kts = 15nm 160kts = 16nm 170kts = 17nm
