Vestibular 2 Terms Flashcards
VSR
execution of muscles in the neck and body with the purpose of maintaing balance and head orientation when tilting.
Medial
division of the vestibulospinal tracts responsible for neck and arm movements in response to balance disturbances.
Vestibulocollic
facilitates head-righting reactions when we tilt towards one side
Reticular Formation
increases our arousal level and triggering nausea/vomiting specifically in response to repeated head movement
VPL
responsible for receiving vestibular input from the contralateral vestibular nuclei, and then relaying it to the ipsilateral PIVC
PIVC
primary sensory processing area of the cortex responsible for providing conscious awareness of vestibular sensations
Lateral Posterior
assists with the processing of the Parietal Association cortex
MGN
responsible for receiving auditory information, and relaying it to the auditory cortex
Inferior Colliculus
receives input from the Auditory Nuclei prior to transmitting this information to the Medial Geniculate Nucleus of the Thalamus.
Wernickes
receives auditory input from the Auditory Cortex, and is responsible for interpreting spoken language.
Anteropulsion
refers to a patient’s tendency to fall forward.
Retropulsion
refers to a patient’s tendency to fall backward.
Lateropulsion
refers to a patient’s tendency to fall to one side.
