lingual vein
branches from the linguofacial vein ventrally; drains tongue, pharynx, larynx,
maxillary vein
branches from the external jugular vein ventrally; drains the ear, orbit, palate, nasal cavity, cheek, mandible, and cranial cavity

common carotid artery
artery that supplies blood to the face, head, and neck; located on each side of the neck running with the vagosympathetic trunk
cranial thyroid artery
one of the first branches off of common carotid; supplies the trachea, esophagus, and thyroid gland

carotid sinus
baroreceptor that senses changes in arterial blood pressure (important so blood pressure in brain does not reach critical levels)
