- CAUSE: CONTAMINATED SALIVA/FECES
- INFANTS/YOUNG CHILDREN
- SYMPTOMES: MALAISE, FEVER, DISPHAGIA, SORE THROAT
- LESIONS: SOFT PALATE/TONSILLAR PILLARS. BEGIN (RED MACULES) WHICH FORM FRAGILE VESICLES THAT RAPIDLY ULCERATE
- SYSTEMIC SYMPTOMS: RESOLVE FEW DAYS
- ULCERATIONS: RESOLVE 7-10 DAYS

- ACUTE/CONTAGIOUS VIRAL INFECTION
- CAUSE: COXSACKIE VIRUS
- SKIN RASH/ORAL LESIONS ASSOCIATED WITH FLULIKE SYMPTOMS (SORE THROAT, DYSPHAGIA, FEVER) LIKE HERPANGINA
- VESICULAR ERUPTIONS (PALMS OF HANDS, SOLES OF FEET, MUCOSA ANTERIOR PART MOUTH
- ORAL LESIONS: SMALL VESICLES RAPIDLY RUPTURE LEAVING SHALLOW ULCERS (RED HALO MOST COMMONLY ON THE BUCCAL MUCOSA, LABIAL MUCOSA, TONGUE)
- MOST CASES: HERPANGINA/HFM ARE SELF-LIMITING WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT COMPLICATIONS
- THERAPY: DIRECTED SYMPTOMATIC RELIEF, NONASPIRIN ANTIPYRETICS, TOPICAL ANESTHETICS
