Vertebral fractures Flashcards
Describe surgical management
Helps to tabilise the spine and prevents spinal deformity
Descrbie non-surgical management
Body casts, high dose of steroids, pain relief ie. morphine and paracetamol. Trials for prevalent fractures ie. trials of alendrionic acid
Describe some ways of rehabillitation after vertebral fracture
Pain control, refrain from smoking, counselling and light activity
Describe some complications of vertebral fractures
Mechanical - deformity in vertebral column and deteroration of neurological legion due to unstable fracture
Neurological defect - paralysis
Developement of new conditions - Developement of ileus, pressure sores
What is the danger of a fracture dislocation of the cervical region of the vertebral column?
Trauma to the vertebral column may injure the spinal cord and affect sensory and motor function. This can cause parawesthesia or paralysis
