Vertebral Culum Ribs And Sternum Flashcards
Sternum
Flat bone located at the anterior aspect of the thorax and it’s T shape
Sternum articulated with
Clavicle and the first 7cartilaginous ribs
True ribs
( first 7 ribs)
The costal cartilage from each of these ribs attaches directly to the sternum
False ribs
For ribs 8 to 10 the costal cartilage are attaches to the cartilage of the next higher rib
Floating ribs
11 to 12
There are short ribs that do not attach to the sternum at all
Typical ribs 3 to 9
Consists head neck and body
Neck: narrowed region
Tubercle: articulated with the facet located on the vertebral transverse process
Head: articulated with the costal facets located on the bodies of thoracic vertebrae
Costal groove: in the inferior margin of each rib carrier blood vessels and nerves
Cervical ( lordosis)
Concave posteriorly secondary curvature
Thoracic kyphosis
Convex posteriorly concave anteriorly primary curvature
Lumber lordosis
Concave posteriorly
Secondary curvature
Sacral kyphosis
Convex posteriorly
Concave anteriorly
Primary curvature
Superior vertebral notch
These notches form the intervertebral foramina that permit passage of the spinal nerve
Vertebral foremen
forms the vertebral canal in the vertebral column). The spinal cord, vessels and membranes pass through the vertebral canal.
Vertebral arch
Forms the posterior portion of each vertebra
Atlas and axis
C1 doesn’t have spinous process
C2 has odontoid process
Thoracic vertebrae
the second segment of the vertebral column, located between the cervical and lumbar vertebral segments.
